Warranty Claim or Not? How Can I Tell?

22-Oct-2009

What is the warranty period on a simmerstat?

The control is guaranteed against faulty materials and workmanship in manufacture for a period of 2 years from the date of manufacture or 1 year from the date of installation, whichever occurs first, provided always that it has been fitted by a registered electrician.

How can I tell if the simmerstat is within the warrenty period?

All simmerstats supplied by Smiths have a date of manufature stamped on the back of the control, this reads Day/Month/Year

How can I tell if it is an orignal part or not?

Something we see is the original oven manufactures simmerstat being returned to us for replacment, If the simmerstat  have either an ‘EN’ or ‘FP’ at the end of the code, then it is the original part and has not been purchased from us.

All the simmerstat’s we supply have the following codes:

SM102-M3156IAC (M3V102)
SM214-MDP110C (MD3214)
SM215-MP101C
SM700-M3158IAC (M3V700)
SM800-MD3157IAC(MD3V214)

Other common questions?

Another common request for replacment we see, is when a knob has been fitted and pushed on too hard, forcing the shaft through the back of the simmerstat, this is due to an over enthusiastic installer rather than a faulty simmerstat, and a replacment will not be given so please take care when
installing.
